Does Age Matter?
In terms of having a secret formula, I imagine that age plays a part. Someone in their early 20’s may not necessarily have the answer vs someone in their late 60’s – just as an example. And I suppose that depends on how you look at it. Perhaps someone who has already reached their later years, may have developed a certain degree of skepticism and may tell you, that happiness is but a pipe-dream. Whereas, someone much younger, just starting out in life, may feel that they do have the answer. The key or secret to happiness is how they look at life, achieving the goals that they have set for themselves. Perhaps eventually getting married and having children. Or focusing on their careers and travelling around the world.
Your Body can make you Happy
Did you know that just through looking after your own body, you can create your own happiness? Does it shock you to know this? Does it sound too simple? We’re always told that diet is important. Eating healthy and keeping fit is a great contributor to our happiness and our wellbeing. But do you know just how much?
Happiness Chemicals
Your body produces your own happiness chemicals. This is how you can up the production of these chemicals which will result in you feeling so much happier than you currently are.
Dopamine
Dopamine is known as the “Reward Chemical”. How do you increase your levels of Dopamine?
- Eating food
- Achieving a goal
- Completing a task
- Self-care activities
Each time you do these things, your body produces dopamine – a sense of feeling good as reward for doing something! Isn’t that great?
Endorphins
Endorphins are known as the “Pain Killer Chemical”. How do you increase your levels of Endorphins?
- Exercising
- Listening to music
- Watch a movie
- Laugh!!
Who would have thought that you can relieve your body from pain through exercising, or just watching a movie. Or even more simple – just laughter?!! We can never have enough laughter in our lives!
Oxytocin
Also known as the “Love Hormone”, Oxytocin levels can so easily be increased, simply through :
- Socialising
- Physical touch
- Petting animals
- Helping others
Oh my gosh! There is pretty much no effort required here. Just go hang out with good friends and love your animals. Give more hugs and help people wherever you can – done!!
Serotonin
Serotonin is a natural “Mood Stabiliser”. Again, this chemical can so easily be increased in your body by simple actions, such as :
- Exposure to the sun
- Being mindful
- Being in nature
- Meditation
Wow, have you ever just ‘felt’ how great you feel when you’ve been out in nature, in the sun and just connecting to yourself and the beautiful space around you? Who would have thought that such a simple thing, can increase your serotonin levels? Meditation is so great for you all-round. Through meditation you can communicate with the Universal Consciousness and I have been teaching this for so long – connecting to the Universal Consciousness brings about peace and harmony in your life. Now you know that this happens, because you’re meditating more and through your meditation, you are increasing your serotonin.
Now that you are armed with all this information, you simply have no excuse to say you don’t know what the secret to happiness is. I have also been teaching and coaching for so long, that I hear so many people say, this is not the key in it’s entirety. My answer to you is yes, you’re right. But, it is the starting point. It is building a foundation from which you can enhance your life in every which way you want to.
We all know, even if we don’t put it into practice, that it is so much easier to be creative, to be social, to be fun-loving and to be kind to ourselves, when we feel physically on top of our game. You now know how to put yourself in great shape, through living your life, eating correctly, setting small achievable goals and then getting there. Through completing simple tasks and taking good care of your body. Through socializing and physical touch. Being kind to others and helping where you can. Incorporating regular exercise into your daily life and listening to great music. Getting out into the sun and being one with nature.
