Many years ago, taking notes whilst listening to Ascended Master Kuthumi talk about belief systems, I realised I was abbreviating belief systems to BS as part of my personal short hand. Ever since, I always laugh, referring to my faulty belief systems as the BS in my life, the BS that needs to be left behind.
What are belief systems and how do they happen?
A belief system is an ideology or set of principles that helps us to interpret our everyday reality. This could relate to all aspects of our lives, and they can change over time too. Beliefs are shaped and influenced by different factors. How we were raised and what was said to and around us when we were young for one thing. Knowledge we learn on a certain topic can include belief systems about that topic. Peer pressure often creates and may even change our belief systems. The convictions that come from these systems are a way for us to make sense of the world around us and to define our role within it.
Oftentimes belief systems are confirmed or reaffirmed for us because we as humans naturally seek out like. We do this so we can be part of a group or the tribe. Improve our sense of belonging. Being ostracized or outcast is not good for our personal survival when we consider the primal drive to be a part of a group or family and group need is to look after each other. Whilst being attracted to like belief systems doesn’t make them necessarily true – it does mean we take them on as part of our own identity.
When we start out on a journey into “Know Thyself” or “Why am I here?”, that path of self discovery oftentimes unveils discord between who we believed ourselves to be and who we discover we truly are. The fact we often neglect to question the group’s belief systems because we are comfortable, acceptable and part of the tribe affirming our beliefs for us, means we thwart our personal development. But when we start questioning ourselves and exploring how we came to certain beliefs, our world can be shaken up a bit as we are then pushed further on our personal truth path to the faulty and outdated beliefs we hold onto.
Why do we need to investigate our beliefs, and explore whether they serve us or hinder us or leave us like a deer in the headlights?
Oftentimes our beliefs are not our own, put onto us by family and those most authoritarian in our lives. Our BS can also evolve out of defense mechanisms and protective patterns we put in place when we were young to help us adapt to situations out of our control that may have left us feeling traumatised, abandoned, betrayed, in pain. Through the act of growing up, we have to reassess our BS because as adults we have different management tools available to us – and yet we respond to present adult situations using our childhood defenses.
What to do once we have discovered that our belief systems are faulty at best or downright damaging in their continued application?
We owe it to ourselves to clear them out and let them go. We do this via multiple methods available to us:
• Burning ceremonies
• New moon intentions
• Daily practice communication with our Highest Self
• Internal communication with our intuition and inner self
• Counseling with trained practitioner
• Choosing to change and applying our refreshed beliefs
• Other healing modalities
Belief systems exist in all realms of your life. No area is free of them. Like technology needing upgrades, checking in to the truth, value and how they are serving you, your belief systems require conscientious questioning and re-viewing on an ongoing basis. Choose to free yourself of the BS in your life and instead, bring forth systems of authentic, light you, that support and raise you in love. Happy self-seeking and weeding out your own BS.
Much love always
