I was reminded again today how much we allow ourselves to be ruled by our fears. Fear is an acronym for False evidence appearing real. There is no true threat, immediate danger and no threat of a loss of something or someone dear to us. Fear is but an illusion. It is a perception that we create when we overthink and is very much created by the conversations that we have with ourselves. We generate fear-based thinking or thoughts when we think that we know the outcome of a situation, but in fact have no basis of truth for our thoughts.
So how do we stop ourselves from feeling fearful in our lives? Firstly we do have to know that what we fear will be made manifest, without a shadow of doubt. And why? Because that which we fear, we focus on and that which we focus on, we infuse with energy. And when we feed our thoughts with energy, they grow stronger. They start out as a tiny spark, which when fed, becomes a larger flame until it becomes a fire out of control.
And if you think about it, the things that we fear the most, definitely take up a lot of space in our heads. We think about it a lot and the more we think about it, the more we think about it…. And so on and so on.
We need to be very mindful of the conversations that we generate in our own heads. My guide always says, what we pay attention to, we become conscious of. We’ve all heard the saying : Energy flows where attention goes”. What you focus on grows. Whatever is the focus of attention becomes more prominent. It’s one of those “hidden in plain sight” concepts; almost too obvious for people to fully grasp and consistently apply.
Again, how do we stop ourselves from feeling fearful in our lives? The answer is simple. Know what you’re dealing with. Never assume. Make sure that you have all your facts and then make up your mind based on the facts that you’ve gathered. When we assume, is when we create something in our heads that actually isn’t there. Get to know yourself too – it’s so important. And by that I mean, know what your triggers are, know what it is that sends you into that frenzied space of thinking the worst, jumping to a negative conclusion. I think practicing the pause is a great way to bring yourself back. So that when you do find yourself going off on a tangent, stop, take a deep breath, count to ten. Ask yourself, is this real or is it one of my perceived fears springing to life in my head? Do I actually have absolute fact that what I think is about to happen, actually will happen? And then take it from there. If you don’t know for sure, you know that the decisions that you make will be based on something that isn’t there. And then we ask ourselves, why does this keep happening to me? Or, how did I allow this to happen? Or, why did this happen to me?
My wish for you all today, is that you don’t allow your life to be ruled by your fears. Remember that you need to trust at all times. Trust that you will make the right decision when you have all the facts at your fingertips. Trust that you will feel better when you know the facts. Trust that you will be so much more in control when you know the facts.
