“I will live this day as if it is my last… I will waste not a moment mourning yesterday’s misfortunes, yesterday’s defeats, yesterday’s aches of the heart, for why should I throw good after bad?
I will live this day as if it is my last. This day is all I have and these hours are now my eternity. I greet this sunrise with cries of joy as a prisoner who is reprieved from death. I lift mine arms with thanks for this priceless gift of a new day. So too, I will beat upon my heart with gratitude as I consider all who greeted yesterday’s sunrise who are no longer with the living today. I am indeed a fortunate man and today’s hours are but a bonus, underserved. Why have I been allowed to live this extra day when others, far better than I, have departed? Is it that they have accomplished their purpose while mine is yet to be achieved? Is this another opportunity for me to become the man I know I can be?
These are the words of Og Mandino – so profound and thought-provoking! Imagine if this is the way you live your life. Imagine the comfort and contentment in achieving living each day being totally thankful for what we have. Above all, imagine the comfort and contentment in being able to achieve living each day as if it was your last.
It is time for us all to change who we are. To work on becoming the ‘man’ we know we can be. And how do we know how to become the man we know we can be? Jesus taught us through his commandment that we love one another as he has loved us. What more could we offer one another? How great the peace, tranquillity and harmony in the world, if we just managed to accomplish this one thing!
Think before you say what you think – think before you say what you say. Consider whether what you are about to say will be of any benefit to you and the person to whom you are talking and have the same consideration for your thoughts. We all have the power to make our day and someone else’s day – why not make it a good one? When you step out of bed in the morning, why not make a conscious decision to spread only love and harmony – to focus your energy on creating a positive outcome for every situation throughout the day for yourself and everyone around you.
With each new year there are so many new and wonderful opportunities awaiting us all and it is up to us to reach out and grab what we can. And in taking that which we can, we need to turn those opportunities into wonderful new and exciting lives for ourselves – no-one else is going to do it for us!
