Prioritise your time of day
Your time for meditation should be treated as a meeting with Spirit. Prioritise a time of day that works for you, either first thing in the morning, or just before retiring to bed, and keep that time every day. Spirit are taking the time to show up for you, it’s a sign of respect to keep your appointment. Make sure that the time of day that you choose, is when you feel at your optimum best. If you are particularly tired at the end of the day, don’t choose bedtime as your time of day. First thing in the morning before you start your day is usually best. Your mind is generally fresh and it’s also a way for you to set your intention for the day, to instill a mindset for the day and to connect to your guides and open the channel of communication for inspiration throughout the day.
Choose your quiet place
Select a space in your home where you can sit undisturbed and where you are comfortable. Try not to use your bed as this could encourage you to become drowsy and lose focus. A straight-backed chair usually works best. Some people may prefer to use a meditation stool or sit cross-legged on the floor. Whatever works best for you, do that!
Get comfortable
It’s important that you are comfortable. Sitting in a straight-backed chair with your legs uncrossed and your feet firmly on the ground usually works really well. Don’t fold your arms or hunch your shoulders. Rather place your hands gently on your lap, again with your hands unclasped. Whatever works best for you, do that!
Be still
Being still is to sit as still as you can and to still your mind as much as you can too. We are not able to stop the thoughts from going around in our heads, but we can work on not paying any attention to them. Try to keep your thoughts as quiet as possible. This is aided by being in an emotionally relaxed state as possible.
Close your eyes
Close your eyes so that you are not distracted by the things in the room. Closing your eyes also allows you to focus on your breathing and relaxing your body and brings you to a complete state of relaxation. During your meditation, anything that you ‘see’ will be seen through your mind’s eye.
Focus on your breathing
Breathe deeply in and out as slowly as you possibly can. You may initially become lightheaded, but as you become familiar with your breathwork, your body will begin to enjoy the relaxation and state of wellbeing that is generated through taking air right into the bottom of your lungs.
Use a mantra if that works
Use any mantra that you find online that works for you. Here are some you can choose to use :
- Aum or the Om. Pronounced ‘Ohm’. …
- Om Namah Shivaya. The translation is ‘I bow to Shiva’. …
- Hare Krishna. …
- I am that I am. …
- Aham-Prema. …
- Ho’oponopono. …
- Om Mani Padme Hum. …
- Buddho
Relax
Make sure that you are completely relaxed. Even before you start saying your mantra or whilst saying your mantra, relax all the muscles of your body, including your shoulders, your facial muscles and your neck muscles. The more relaxed your body is, the higher your vibration will be lifted and the stronger your connection to the universal consciousness will become.
Let go
Let go of any anxieties or emotions that you may be feeling at this time. Let go of any fears about releasing yourself to this meditation. Know that your guides and the angels will be with you and are eager for you to enjoy this experience.
Always bring your focus back to your breathing
If at any time, you feel like you are losing concentration, bring yourself back to focusing on your breathing. It will take those thoughts away from your focus and keep you in a relaxed state.
Let thoughts come and go
Any thoughts that may arise in your mind, don’t pay attention to them. Just allow them to rise and fall with the rhythm of your breathing.
Don’t try to control anything
Allow yourself to relax completely into the moment. You can set your intention at the beginning of your meditation ie tell your guides that your intention is to connect with them or to just have a completely relaxing and energy-renewing experience, and then don’t expect anything. Just fall completely into that present moment, flowing with what the universe has waiting for you, what your guides are walking you through.
Allow the energies to flow as they should
When you don’t control anything, the energies can flow exactly as they should and when they do flow as they should, your meditation experience will be absolutely amazing.
Bring yourself back after five or ten minutes
There is no set rule as to how long you sit in meditation. If you are new to meditation and still getting into feeling relaxed, setting aside your thoughts etc, then allow yourself only five or ten minutes at a time. Anything longer than that, can place pressure on you to ‘feel’ something, or bring back some message and essentially you end up not getting anything and feeling disappointed in yourself. As you become more comfortable with meditating, allow yourself more time and extend that time to whatever length of time feels comfortable and natural for you.
Lastly – Enjoy our meditation. It is your time to spend with your guides, the angels and your loved ones!
