When you decide to have a reading, how do you know that the medium that you have chosen to do the reading for you, is going to be right for you? It may seem like a strange question, but consider this : if you were having problems with your breathing, you wouldn’t go to a doctor that specializes in heart problems. By the same token, different mediums work in different ways, and specialize in different types of readings.
Some mediums are spiritual life coaches, who provide psychic insight and guidance through coaching methods. Some use tarot cards and provide insight through various spreads of the cards. Others use angel cards, medicine wheels and do energy healing, pranic, reiki or other methods. There are some who will offer you a general reading where they will look at all areas of your life, relationships, finances, work, business and health. They may also offer more indepth readings where insight from the guides is sought. There are some mediums who specialize in finding lost objects or lost people, or working with law enforcement to solve murder cases. There are crossing over readings, where the medium will connect to your loved ones to bring through messages of love and inspiration. I am a clairvoyant medium and spiritual teacher and so a huge component of my readings is focused on spiritual guidance and teaching, but also includes messages from loved ones.
So in choosing who you would like to go to for your reading, you need to have a clear objective of what it is that you’re wanting to get out of that reading. When I first became interested in mediumship, there was tremendous focus placed on proving life after death. The medium would spend a great part of the reading, bringing through descriptions of the person with whom they were communicating, and bringing through evidence that the person they were claiming to be connected to, is in fact who they said they were. When looking back at those types of readings, there wasn’t much that ever came through in terms of a true substantial message.
Over time, the world has changed. People have changed and the way the guides work, has also changed. It has become less important to bring through proof of survival after death, and more people seek messages that come from their loved ones, or their spirit guides, in terms of giving them assistance and guidance in their life. Spirit has also changed in terms of the way in which they communicate with us here on the earth.
Most mediums now have a public presence, through either a website, youtube or their facebook page. It is also my experience that no-one decides to have a reading just for the sake of having a reading. Yes, there may be some curiosity when one is new to the idea of communicating with spirit and perhaps when having your first reading, you may leave yourself open to whatever it is that comes through.
Some mediums may claim that they have no control over what or who comes through and to some extent that is true. This applies mostly to loved ones in spirit who choose to come through for a crossing over reading. However, when one considers that there are so many different methods that mediums use to connect to spirit that do have a specific intent, then you have to know that medium does have control over what comes through. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that when you go to see a medium who specializes in bringing through messages from the guides to assist you in your life from a spiritual coaching perspective, he or she is working with their guides for a particular purpose and so within that context, there is a certain control over that reading.
To my question, how do you know that the medium is right for you? Do your research. Go to their web page, go to their facebook page, see what they have on youtube or Instagram. See if they have comments from previous clients. See if they have a clear explanation as to what type of reading they do, so that when you do go to them, you are aware of what your expected outcome of your reading is going to be, and that you have chosen the right person to get to that outcome.
In earlier years, people were encouraged to not tell the medium anything, for fear that they would be aiding the medium in knowing what the person they were wanting to contact looked like, or how their personality was etc, and so they wouldn’t be completely convinced that the medium was actually contacting their loved ones. The way things have evolved, and yes, I can only speak for my readings, the more exchange of conversation, the more energy is built up between the sitter and myself and the better the reading is going to be. Just to clarify, the majority of my readings are to assist people with challenges that they are facing in their life. So for the majority of the reading, I will be connected to my guides so that we can focus on my sitter and try to resolve their issues, or bring through inspiration and guidance for them. Within that reading, I almost always get loved ones from spirit who will come into the reading, and I will be able to pass on their messages as well. In 90% of these instances, they (the loved ones from spirit) will be coming through in support of what the guides are discussing, or to give their support and love to the sitter. This is not to say that I don’t do pure crossing over readings. As a person and as a medium, I am very fluid. I don’t ever stick to watching the time when I do a reading, and I always allow myself and my guide to flow with what it is that my sitter requires.
Communication is always important in no matter what we do. Please don’t go to see a medium and expect them to know exactly why you have come to see them. Please don’t think that it’s going to interfere with their ability to bring you a great reading. I think I speak for all mediums when I say that there is no personal benefit to us pretending that we know what we’re doing. Being a medium is a life-long commitment and one that is taken seriously. None of us are in it for the money – if we were we would all be super rich. Being a medium is about being in service to those who seek our services and we do the work with great love and appreciation for the opportunity to serve mankind.
