In this article, I would like to share some thoughts about reincarnation and karma. Are they real? If so what is the significance or either of them in your current experience of life.
What is the reason for living many lives and do the consequences of actions in one life carry over to subsequent lives.
What is Reincarnation and what is Karma?
The common meaning of reincarnation is a person or animal whose soul has been born into this life, but who has experienced previous lives as well.
Reincarnation is the belief that when your life ends, through death, your soul or spirit creates a new body and a new life to continue with physical experience.
Most understand karma as the consequences that follow your thoughts and actions. It is the manifestation of the law of cause and effect. Some religious traditions teach that karma can span over various lifetimes.
Let’s Look at Karma in more detail
So the consequences of your thoughts and actions are supposed to follow you through various lifetimes until they have resolved and played out completely.
If this is how your life happens, then unresolved karma requires reincarnation to occur for the universe to rebalance itself.
The law of cause and effect may be real, but let’s look at how you create your life.
Each spirit or higher self that creates its life creates an ego to help with the illusion of separation from the oneness of the universal mind. The universal mind is love and knowingness.
The ego is your sense of self and your sense of yourself as an individual, each time you reincarnate, if you indeed do, you create a different ego or self.
If the original creator, or universal mind, is love and knowingness, how is it just and right to punish one ego for the mistakes of a completely different one?
At a subconscious level, the concept of karma can be a convenient way to avoid responsibility for your life. You fail to realise that the consequences of cause and effect are now.
You should understand that the past and the future do not exist, other than in your thoughts. There is only now, before now there was also now and after now there is only another now and so your life unfolds. This would suggest to us that karma is now.
Now Let’s Talk a bit about Reincarnation
Stories of reincarnation experienced through past life regressions are quite common. If it fashionable in some social circles to seek out practitioners who can facilitate such regressions. This is so that you can compare who you were in a previous life with your friends.
Sometimes at social gatherings, I have shared that I am a hypnosis practitioner. When this happens, invariably I am asked if I do past life regressions. When I say yes the person I am speaking to will usually tell me about a regression experience and who they were in a past life.
Invariably they tell me, with great pride, they were a famous person, Marie Antoinette comes up quite a lot with the ladies. It looks like most of these people are keeping a low profile this time around and perhaps need a boost to their ego.
Again going back to the creation of a separate ego for every person who lives, there must be something more to this idea of continuation of experience in different lives.
What is the cycle of reincarnation Really, (Mary’s Story)?
Several years ago Mary, (not her real name), called me to ask if I would facilitate a past life regression for her. We set up a date and time and she came to see me.
Normally with new clients, I have a series of questions I ask, amongst other things, to evaluate whether a client has experience of hypnosis and what they expectation for our session is.
Mary told me that she was unsure of what to expect as reincarnation was a bit of a mystery to her and was, in fact, completely against her religious beliefs.
I was interested to hear why she had contacted me and asked for this service if she didn’t believe in reincarnation. Her answer was that a friend recommended my services to her.
I was quite grateful for the referral, but concerned about how to support Mary in the difficulties that she was going through in her life. So I thought it might be a good idea to first discuss the idea of living a life before we started any regression work.
Our conversation went something like this:
Me: I want you to get the most benefit of our time together, so let’s just talk a bit before we start. I want to ask you, do you read your bible.
Mary: Yes I do.
Me: Are you familiar with the book of genesis?
Mary: I am
Me: What was there before creation started?
Mary: Nothing
Me: Are you sure, wasn’t God there?
Mary: Oh, yes of course, but only God.
Me: Ok, so if there was only God and he created everything, what is everything made of?
Mary: I don’t know.
Me: Could we say that if God was all there was before creation, that everything is made of God?
Mary: Ok. I suppose we could
Me: So you are a part of God, I am a part of God, everything in existence is a part of God. So my question to you is: who is really reincarnating every time a life is lived.
Mary: Oh, I see what you are saying.
Me: Good, now let’s dig a little deeper. If God exists outside of creation and isn’t an old man in the sky, what could God be?
Mary: I’m not sure, he is God
Me: Well, he thought about creating all of this so he must have a mind.
Mary: Ok
Me: So if he has a mind he must know.
Mary: Yes, he knows everything.
Me: Ok and you have a mind too, so when you pray you connect our mind with God’s mind. Now the state you move into in hypnosis is very similar, if not the same as a state of prayer.
Mary: Oh ok
Me: Ok so if God’s mind is all knowing, then he knows every experience that has been, is now and ever will be. You can connect to this universal mind because you are part of it because you are part of God.
When you connect with this universal mind, it picks up your frequency of vibration through your emotional state and understands what you are struggling with in your life right now.
Because of the love that it has for you, it will show you other experiences similar to what you are going through, from other lives it has experienced. This is what you observe in your past life regression.
The wonderful gift that you are given in observing these other experiences, is that you do not have an emotional attachment to them. You still experience the emotions of the moment but they are not from your memories in this life.
This gift allows your subconscious mind to process these experiences differently to the ones you have stored in your memory in this life, that are confusing you because of your emotional attachment. Your subconscious mind gets a neutral perspective of your experiences as a result
This gives your subconscious mind a different perspective and allows people and situations to turn up differently in your life. It also gives you the freedom to choose differently as you move forward. Emotional attachments can separate from experience and you can let them go.
All of this sometimes takes place at a level below your awareness and can lead to profound change in your life for the better.
So with this in mind are you more comfortable with the concept of past life regression?
Mary: Yes I am; much more comfortable thanks.
After this Mary went through the past life regression and experienced a significant emotional shift. She was able to see a way forward to overcome her difficulties.
Final Thoughts
Once you realise who you are at your very origin and the connectedness of everything with the all this is, your perspective on your life and other lives becomes clearer. The thought of reincarnation becomes natural when you understand who is really reincarnating to experience.
Yes, there are various levels of incarnation, higher selves, soul groups, guides and teachers. There are choices of experiences to go through too. However, at your origin you are a localised manifestation of the all that is.
When you realise the true essence of who you are as a local manifestation of the all that is, that knowing teaches you that you are not your body, your thoughts, your emotions, your relationships or your experiences.
This knowledge helps you control your ego and you become love knowingly.
When you realise who you are, karma ceases to be a punishment. Observing the experiences of others, through meditation and regression, becomes a wonderful gift, a tool to help you overcome your current struggles. You are then able to release any emotional attachment that has become stuck in your being. You stop being a prisoner of the past and you can start being present and live in the now. Knowingness replaces perception and judgement and you become more of the creator as he is all of you.
