The last day will come for every one of us. The last time we spoke. The last time we said goodbye. The last time we parked our bicycles outside the shop. The last time we bought ice-cream from the ice-cream van. The last time we played in the park. The last time we walked to school together. The last time we played in the park together. The last time we cried together. The last time we shared a laugh. The last time we shared a secret.
We just never know when that last time will be. It’s a scary thought!
If you knew that today was the last time you would see someone, what would you do? If today was your last day, what would you do?
Sometimes we don’t even remember when that last time was until it’s too late and it leaves me asking myself, why is it that we take the people that we love, so much for granted? Why is it that those whom we love are always placed at the bottom of our priority list?
I’m reminded of the song by Ronan Keating :
“If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
That she’s my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face this world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes”
Do our loved ones know how much we love them? Do we try in every way to show them every day that they are special to us? Do they know that we would give our lives for them without thought or hesitation? Do we actually show them through our actions that they are the most important people in our lives?
I do hope that you can answer yes to all these questions, I’m not so sure that I do these things all the time and you probably feel the same. There’s another song I’m reminded of by Extreme called More than Words :
“How easy, it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn’t have to say that you love me
‘Cause I’d already know”
Our actions speak so much louder than our words and I think we sometimes forget that. We forget that it takes only a moment to send a quick message to say I’m thinking of you, I miss you, I love you. Are you okay today? How was your weekend? Hope you’re feeling better.
We just never know when it’s going to be the last time.
