First Thoughts
There is a saying that “The mind thinks but the heart knows”. In this article, I would like to explore this with you and talk about what you know, where your knowledge comes from, where it lives and how you can connect with it. My intention today is to share with you; and draw your attention to; your inner knowing. The knowing that lives at the core of your being, at your starting point, which if you allow it to, will give you comfort and peace beyond measure as you journey through your life.
In a recent meditation, my guide Peter asked me this question, “What do you know?” I was going through some serious issues at the time and I was in the process of working out the best course of action with him. In response to his question, I started thinking about his question in relation to the problem in front of me. Straight away, he said “Don’t think about it or reason with the question, just tell me what you know”. Then he said gently “Go to your heart”.
When I did as he told me, I immediately felt a sense of calm and peaceful confidence. Peter asked me again in a quiet voice “What do you know?” My answer was “I know, I can’t tell you what I know but I just know that I know”. Peter told me that this knowing is my connection with the source and the origin of my creative nature. I knew then that my knowing is greater than any material challenge I would ever face. This is what I would like to share with you.
What Is Knowing vs. Knowledge?
Philosophy defines knowledge as Justified True Belief (JTB). This defines knowledge as having three essential elements: (1) a belief that is (2) true and (3) justified, either by proof or experience.
Knowledge is what you gather from sources outside yourself, an external process. Sometimes it comes from authority, sometimes from experience. Whatever the source of your knowledge, it requires you to use your perception to evaluate it. In the process of you acquiring knowledge you will, at some point, exercise judgement according to your perception and the beliefs you have taken on in your journey through life.
In contrast to how you acquire knowledge, knowing comes from within, it is the unquestionable feeling of certainty that creation is imminent.
Knowledge comes from memory, it is of the mind and therefore subjective. Knowing is of the being, it is existential and eternal.
Knowing tells you that nothing is beyond your ability to express your manifestation of the all that is. You are inevitable and unshakeable.
Do You Know Who You Are?
At face value, this would appear to be a simple question. Most people when asked this would respond something like this: I am a (age) year old (gender)(occupation/job). For example:” I am a 30 year old woman journalist”, or something similar.
Let’s unpack this a little. You age is just a time stamp on this particular journey or lifetime. Your gender quite possibly has changed over several lifetimes and you determined it according to your life plan. Your occupation or job is something you have, not who you are.
Ok, well that is hopefully making you think about the question on a deeper level, which is heading in the right direction.
Perhaps we should come at this from a different angle. If you want to know who you are, it might be a good idea to strip away what you are not. Once you strip away what you are not, logic suggests that what remains is who you are. So let’s investigate this further.
You can go through the following process in quiet contemplation or meditation:
Let go of your thoughts, you are not your thoughts – you have thoughts.
Let go of your emotions, you are not your emotions – you have emotions.
Let go of your experiences, you are not your experiences – you have experiences.
Let go of your relationships, you are not your relationships – you have relationships.
Let go of your body, you are not your body – you have a body.
Once you have let go of these things what remains is pure conscious awareness. This is who you are. This awareness observes all of the things you have just let go of. You are conscious creative awareness, a part of the all that is. The only difference between you and the all that is, is that the all that is created you, as an extension of it to create and experience as you will.
As you sit in this awareness, my question to you is “What do you know?” Allow that sense of knowing, become it and anchor the feeling as a reference point for the future.
Tuning In to Knowing in Stressful Times, Let it Flow
Knowing what you now have read above, I am sure you will agree that this state of knowing can be accessed quite easily in times of stress and challenge. Simply relax and go to your seat of awareness. I know that this knowing of yours will give you the strength and confidence to know that everything is as it should be and that nothing is beyond your intention. I say again – “You are inevitable!”
If you pause before reacting to situations and look at things from the perspective of knowing, you will allow your infinite wisdom to shine through in everything you do.
Conclusion
I hope the above has given you an inside track into ways of answering the question “What do you know?” I hope too, that I have encouraged you to further your journey of discovery into who you really are. The more you explore, the more wisdom and experience you allow into your life to better express yourself as part of the all that is. If you feel lost, confused or a little afraid I hope this will give you the courage to move forward.
As you go forward try out this technique and please give any positive feedback you want to share. I would love to hear about your experiences and your successes.
With love
