There’s never enough time, I hear you say! “I miss out on so many opportunities because I’m too busy.” “I don’t have time to try anything new.”
We’ve all been there and made these excuses at some point in our lives. That’s exactly what they are – excuses! We forget how powerful our minds are, and we can so easily rationalize ourselves out of any responsibility. “It’s not my fault that I have to take care of everyone else, where will they be without me?” “If I didn’t have to spend so much time at work, I’d have more time to myself.” “I’m never able to put myself first, it makes me feel guilty.” Would you like me to continue 😊
I’m very sure you get what I’m getting at. My, my, my – it is so easy to abdicate from being responsible for our own happiness. And why do we do it? Fear my dear – fear!
Fear stands for “False expectations appearing real.’ Just think about that. That which we fear, is never what we truly know. It’s what we believe we know. It’s what we perceive of our future. And it is most certainly, without any shadow of doubt, what holds us back from being who we really want to be and from living the life that we really want to live.
I have had so many amazingly talented clients that I have worked with. So many who have the potential to become great speakers, or great authors, but never go there. It doesn’t matter how much encouragement I give them. I doesn’t matter how much I tell them, they will be amazing at it, if they just give it a try. Of course, we know that unless you can overcome your own fear, no amount of persuasion from someone else is going to get you to take the first step.
I have some exciting news for you and that is that every year you are given 365 new days and this year, you’ve been given 366! That means that you have 366 new days to start something new. 366 new days to step out of your comfort zone. 366 new days to step into your new self. 366 new days to put in the effort to overcome those fears that you know hold you back.
Of course, when you go much deeper into your life, there are extenuating circumstances or factors that contribute to that fear. I’m by no means implying that the fear is superficial or something that you can just step away from in the blink of an eye. As with anything in our life, we have to understand the underlying cause and the effect and then we have to work on altering the effect. On moving through the effect so that we generate an effect that serves us in a positive way. And yes, that’s difficult. It’s not easy to go into the deep and dark spaces of your life, fish them out, turn them around, examine them from every aspect; then in some instances, recognise that you’re the cause as well as the effect. It takes courage and it’s a brave heart that seeks to bring about positive change in their life.
But you can do it. You and me and everyone else, has the capacity to change the things we don’t like about ourselves. We have the capacity to change the outcome of a circumstance, or an interaction that has affected us in a negative way. We have the capacity to turn our lives around and we are given 365 new opportunities every single year.
We have already used up 102 days as at the date of writing this article (12th April 2024). That means that we now have 264 more opportunities. Let’s not waste them people. Let’s get down with ourselves, become openly honest and raw with ourselves. Let’s start now – the challenge is on to see how different you are by the end of 2024!
