Crystals interact with the body’s energy field, creating balance and alignment. Many people use crystals for stress and focus, while others believe that crystals have the power to heal physical ailments and illnesses.
There are a multitude of methods which have been utilized for crystal cleansing. The following provides examples of workable techniques.
Take the crystal to the sea, cleanse in sea water (allowing the water to wash over it) and energise in the sun.
Smudge the crystal (ie with sweetgrass, cedar, sage, incense etc). this method of cleansing has been used for centuries by Native American and Native African tribal cultures.
Soak the crystal in sea salt for 7-24 hours, rinse with pure water and energise in the sun.
Caution : with some softer crystalline forms, sale or abrasive substances may mar the surface. This will not however, affect the properties of the crystal.
Place the crystal on a large crystal cluster or on another mineral (which is a specific energizer eg Amethyst) for 12-24 hours.
Cleanse the crystal in flowing spring, river, lake or tap water and energise in the sun. (Water is the universal cleanser and is effective in cleansing undesirable energies from all physical forms)
Soak the crystal in flowers (eg rose petals, orange blossoms, honeysuckle etc) for twenty-four hours. The essence strips away negativity and cleanses the stone while the purity and energy of the flower is transmitted to the stone.
Soak the crystal in brown rise for 24 hours. The rice balances and centres the energy removing the negativity, while dissipating and transforming the negative to the positive. Upon completion of the soak, the rise is purified and energized and is quite wonderful to eat.
Sunlight and Moonlight
Natural light from the sun and the moon provide two purposes in that they not only cleanse your crystals but can also be used to give them a recharge. Placing your stones in direct sunlight outside or on a windowsill to soak in the rays will provide them with a boost of energy.
To recharge :
- • Put them outside or on a windowsill on a full moon to recharge.
- • Use the rain as a way to cleanse them with water, or soak them in a bowl of salt water.
- • Smudge them with a sage stick or some palo santo. …
- • Bury them underground for 24 hours. …
- • Use a cleansing crystal
How to program your crystals
- • Crystals get their power once they’re “programmed,” or dedicated to a specific purpose of your choosing. The best time to do this is directly after you’ve cleared your stone. I’ve tried programming my crystals with intentions a few different ways but found the following the most effective:
- • Hold the crystal in your hand. (Your left hand, preferably, since your left side is your receiving side.)
- • Stand in natural light, either outside or next to a window.
- • Say aloud, “I dedicate this crystal to the highest good. I ask that it be used in love and light.”
- • Then, program the crystal for a specific use. Think about what you want that crystal to support you with, whether it’s landing a new job or speaking more kindly to yourself. While still holding the stone in your left hand, visualize and feel into what it would be like if you were to achieve that intention.
- • Once you’ve envisioned the crystal’s purpose, finish the process by saying aloud: “I dedicate this crystal for the [your purpose].”
- • This is optional, but I also like to wear my stones on me for seven days to further connect with them. Personally, I find this is the best way to energize them.
