Have you ever noticed that there always seems to be a period in your life that you receive really good news and then one when you receive really bad news? Almost like you hear of so much good stuff happening for a few days or weeks and then suddenly it’s as if the tide has turned and you only hear about bad things.
If we seriously think about it, everything in our lives happens in cycles. And so that beautiful piece from Ecclesiates 3 is brought to mind : To everything there is a season. During the 60’s the Byrds wrote and recorded that well-known and loved song, Turn, Turn, Turn. If you’re not familiar with the scripture it reads like this : To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time
to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
And the song is so similar : To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep
To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven
A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together
To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven
A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing
To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven
A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late
In fact, I think it’s such a beautiful song, I’m including the link to it on YouTube for you here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4ga_M5Zdn4
Such a nice message for us for the beginning of May. A time to remember that everything has it’s time and place and that’s okay. We need to have the good times and the bad times to be able to appreciate that we are alive. All these things come together to show us who we are. To prove to us that we’re capable of so much more than we ever give ourselves credit for, and that’s always a good thing.
So when you find yourself feeling that life is getting you down, just remember that everything is at it should be. And of course, when you find yourself feeling happy about something or feeling a little carefree and you catch yourself scolding yourself and bringing yourself back to the state of what is normal for you – which generally is one where we try to feel as little as possible, know that it’s okay to feel what you do at the time that you feel it. Whether things are going well or not, know that you can make a conscious decision to change that situation and I’m sad to say, that many people consciously choose to remove a state of happiness from their repertoire. But, my question is, why on earth would you want to do that?
Just remember that to everything there is a season and that’s all good.
