“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” William Arthur Ward Wow! How true is that?
One thing that I always tell everyone when I’m teaching or doing a reading, is to never forget to show gratitude for the life that you have and for the guidance and unconditional love that comes from your spirit guides and loved ones. And it’s really interesting to see that some people find it difficult to find something in their lives that they are grateful for.
Start with the little things that seem so meaningless, like the fact that your heart beats! Your heart beats at an astounding 100 000 beats in a 24 hour period. It doesn’t ask for anything back from you except that you take care of your body. You’re breathing in fresh and beautiful air every day. Your lungs sustain your life as you breathe in the breath of God and incidentally that air, so beautifully filled with pure and perfect oxygen, is generated by the magnificent trees that surround you in every direction, standing tall and steadfast, making sure that you have life!
It’s all too easy to look at our bank accounts and think “well not much to be grateful for there!” However, money is just energy and if we’re not placing our energy in the right place, then yes, we’re going to be short of energy every which way we look too!
Gratitude is certainly an attitude. It’s about changing your mindset to see all the beauty and the positivity in your life. All the magnificence that surrounds you every day, in all aspects of your life. And it’s all about saying thank you. Say thank you to your guides. Say thank you to God. Say thank you to the people who contribute to your life in a way that makes your life worth living. Say thank you to your body for sustaining this life that you have chosen. For giving you opportunities that you would not have had, if you didn’t have it. Say thank you to mother earth for providing the food that you eat, the water that you drink, the bricks that you need to provide shelter, the energy you need to provide light and electricity. Say thank you to the sun for bringing you the absolute ideal conditions to sustain all life on this earth on which we live. Say thank you to the moon for her beautiful soft and nurturing energies that she gives even when we’re unable to see her in the sky.
Practise living in gratitude every day. You will be amazed at how different your life will be. Start a gratitude journal – there are so many beautiful ones that you can buy that already have inspirational messages etc to set you on the right track. Otherwise, buy a plain notebook, cover it with your favourite gift wrap paper and embellish it with stars and other stickers that you can buy at any gift or stationery shop. Decorate it in whatever way makes you feel inspired. The more time you spend on your gratitude journal, the more time you’ll be giving your brain to adapt to focusing on what you have to be grateful for.
Paste photos of your grandchildren, your children, your husband or wife, mom or dad, sisters and brothers. Write little notes beneath them why you’re so grateful for them. If you have an illness say like arthritis, draw a picture of what arthritis looks like to you and from there, describe what is it that you’ve learned about yourself because of the arthritis. What is it about arthritis that has made you different in a much more positive way. Doing this will allow you the opportunity to find a way to be grateful for this debilitating disease as well as getting to know yourself more deeply. And again, getting to know yourself, to understand who you are and why you are like you are, is just another beautiful thing to be grateful for.
Happy journaling!
