The Merkaba is so much more than just a simple shape of a star. It holds deep spiritual meaning. Being a three dimensional star, it has eight points. The Merkaba takes its name from the Hebrew word Merkavah – Mer for Light, Ka for Spirit and Ba or Va, for body.

The Merkaba is believed to be a divine chariot or vehicle which is what makes it so powerful in the use of spiritual work. Through meditation, the Merkaba can be invoked to facilitate powerful journeys through the spirit world.
Sacred Geometry
The Merkaba is a strong symbol in Judaism with its roots deeply seated in the Torah. Alongside this, it is also deeply connected to sacred geometry. It appears as a three-dimensional version of the Star of David. In geometry, the Merkaba is a star tetrahedron with its geometric shapes spinning in opposite directions. This gives it the power to create a perfectly unionised balanced energy field. It’s easy to see how the Merkaba star generates balance and stability.
These are the first of the platonic solids and with four triangular sides, the sides sit flat no matter what, meaning that structure and stability become unshakable forces. The tetrahedron is also linked to the energy of the solar plexus – grounded, glorious, and ready to rise – this shape knows how to hold its personal power.
The top tetrahedron represents the masculine force with the lower one representing the feminine force. When applied to the earth and the cosmos, the top shape is the cosmos and the bottom shape is the earth. When applied to the spirit world and the physical realm, it denotes the existence of dark and light – opposite forces coming together to create harmony.
These two energies are always spinning in opposite directions and in doing so, creates balance – a powerful and beautiful idea to hold onto. This balance therefore creates the chariot or the vehicle of light to carry your body and your spirit to higher consciousness.
The Merkaba shape can be found in everything. It is in our water, our cells, our plants, our animals, and is designed by the universe itself. Its origins also relate to the flower of life, the mandala, and the tree of life. These tetrahedrons are associated with the divine and can take us closer to ‘god’ or higher consciousness. The upward point takes us higher while the lower point keeps us connected to the earth and grounded on our astral journeys.
Healing
The Merkaba is a powerful protection tool that can be used to bring about healing. Through opening and activating the third eye chakra, the Merkaba assists in accessing higher dimensions and embracing unconditional love, to channel powerful healing from the spiritual realms.
Opening the Pineal Gland
When the pineal gland is opened, more powerfully visual meditation is brought about. The Merkaba, used in symmetry with ancient prana breathing techniques, can help restore prana flow into the pineal gland. This gland which is found at the centre of the forehead, is also known as the third eye chakra. When activated, it can help to reach your full potential, and assisting you in accessing higher realms through tapping into the powers of visualization. This will naturally heighten your spiritual awareness.
Cleanse the Chakra Energy Points
The Merkaba is filled with protective powers and can very effectively remove any blockages at any of your energy or chakra points. Clearing energy points allows your energy to flow freely and uninterrupted or unencumbered by dense energy that causes them to become blocked.
As a most powerful force, the Merkaba encourages us to release feelings of fear and unworthiness which could also be holding us back.
There is certainly great benefit to you learning to work with the Merkaba – you will be very surprised at its power and the changes that it will help you bring about.
