As is so very often, I look to outside sources for inspiration for my writing. Today, I took this little book from my bookshelf. It’s called Wings of the Morning by Patience Strong. I opened to page 51 – I’ll share it with you.
“The darkest hour, they say is that dark hour before the dawn – when all the world is wrapped in shadows, gloomy and forlorn – but dawnlight finds its way through lattice panes and prison bars, the sun’s bright rays sweep from the sky the dust of paling stars… and all have known a darkest hour in times of stress and strain – an endless night of futile grief – regret – and love’s sweet pain – and all have yearned to greet the dawn – when hope has stirred anew – and peered beyond the shadows to the deep eternal blue. Things may look black as night, and going fast from bad to worse – but this small earth is not the whole of God’s great Universe; lift up your eyes and contemplate the wonders He has made – your troubles will look very small, then healed and unafraid – in all its glory you will see the rising of the Dawn – and face the coming day with faith and happiness reborn.”
How inspiring are these words at this time?! Somehow I hear my mother speaking softly to me from the Spirit World, confirming that there is always darkness before the dawn. And of course we need to keep looking for it, as it does creep up on us and suddenly we see those beautiful rays shining through the little cracks in our life. She also always reminded me to show gratitude for everything that I have. She always said, even the stubbed toe is a blessing – you just need to look deeper to see it.
I think at this time, we should all be looking at our stubbed toes and seeing whether they really are so bad, or within that stubbed toe, is there something positive that we can take away with us? Look for the little cracks of light shining through. The more you become aware of them, the lighter your world becomes.
As human beings we are so easily led to the darkness in our life and sometimes, though it feels that way, it’s only as temporary as the night. It truly is all about perspective and what we say to ourselves. Probably more importantly is how much we look for confirmation of what we tell ourselves. Remember that we live in our heads, it’s completely up to us to make sure that it’s a beautiful place to be.
Take the time to go outside and look up at the stars. Close your eyes and imagine the worlds outside of us. Those on other planets in galaxies far far away. What wonders do they behold? Everything that is, everything that moves, breathes and has it’s being, has been created by the Great I Am – pure perfect absolute Light – the source of all life. Hold that thought in your head as you look up at the stars and let the beauty of the universe relay back to you, every bit of wisdom, every bit of beauty, every bit of magnificence, every bit of grandeur –see it, taste it, feel it, smell it – hold it in your heart and know that you are connected to all that is.
