We have all said something starting with : I would so love…. I dream of having…. My greatest wish is to …. And then we follow on with a ‘but’…
So are we all just making excuses for something that we would so love to have in our lives, but we can’t have because, for whatever reason, we believe we can’t? We dream of having enough money to afford a comfortable life. Enough money to afford to go overseas and visit other countries. Enough money to do whatever we want to, buy whatever we want without having to worry about where the next cent comes from.
And dreaming is great – there are many people who have been able to make their dreams a reality. And it’s not always only to do with money, but let’s face it, money does play a big part in our having the life that we want. So let’s focus on that.
If it is that you dream of owning your own house – totally bond-free, as an example, what is it that you’re doing to ensure that you pay that mortage off? Because unless you’re actually making a serious attempt to make a dent in the bond, you’re never going to own your house, you’re never actually going to pay it off in time to enjoy the fruits of your labour. And I use this example because I recently watched a program on TV where families were interviewed who had actually managed to pay off their mortgages in just a few short years. It was really interesting to see how they had done it. And it wasn’t done because they had lots of money, they were just regular people like you and me. But, they had made a conscious decision that this was something that they wanted to achieve and they had made a plan and their dream had become a reality.
Setting goals in your life and working towards achieving those goals is the only way that you’re ever going to make your dreams come true. You can create a series of goals within a goal. So say for instance that you want to retire as 60 and by the time you retire, you want to have enough money to live a comfortable retirement, you want to have visited 6 different countries and you want to be healthy enough to enjoy these years. With the goal being to retire, you can set smaller goals within that goal in order to achieve everything else that you want to along the way to your 60th birthday.
And even then, you can set smaller much more achievable goals within the smaller goals – hope you’re still with me and understand what I mean. Within each of these goals that you set, you work out what your plan is going to be to achieve that goal and so on and so on. Try it, you’ll be amazed at how easy it actually is to make your dream a reality.
Many people live their entire lives with never having set any goals for themselves. With never actually planning how they want their lives to pan out. And then of course, these are the people who think it’s unfair that someone else is better off than them, that someone else gets to do the things that they have always only dreamed of doing. If you think about going on a holiday, just say for instance, going to Durban for a long weekend. You would plan what weekend you want to go, you would plan where you’re going to stay, how much you have to spend on that time away, who you’re going to go with and what you’re going to do while you’re there. You would also plan how you’re going to get there and have a contingency plan in place, should something go wrong. And all that is just so that you could have a great long weekend away from home.
But, when it comes to our lives, how many of us pay so much attention to what we’re actually doing with it? This beautiful life that has been given to us – which we came into with a plan. I don’t have to remind you that before you left the spirit world, you had a plan in place in terms of what you were going to do and what you were going to achieve. Then I hear people say things like, I really hope I’ve learned the lessons that I’m supposed to – I have no idea what they are, but I hope I have! I don’t want to come back and do it all over again. Believe me, you don’t want to get to the end of your life and wonder why you never did something that you wanted to do. You don’t want to get to the end of your life and have nothing but regret for the life that you didn’t live. And then have to go back to Spirit hoping and praying that you did enough!
Start taking your life seriously – today. Make yourself a priority in everything that you do. Put yourself first in your thoughts, your plans and your needs. Don’t worry about what other people think – their life is theirs to live and yours is yours. Don’t waste another moment walking with your eyes closed and then ending up wandering how you got to where you are. You are important, you matter, and your dreams matter too. Make them a reality – set those goals and make those plans today and more importantly, keep yourself working towards them. You’ll reap the rewards and when it gets to your time to live out the last few years of your life, you will know that you have done everything that you could and you will go back to Spirit with your eyes wide open and a clear conscience knowing that you at least made the grade, if not more!
